In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sweetgreen began integrating pick-up windows into their plans for new locations. In late 2020 we were given the opportunity to design a kinetic covering for these windows which would indicate an open vs. closed state. We worked with the Sweetgreen store planning team to design and prototype this screen based on existing standards for their exterior furnishings and fixtures. With a deadline of less than a month, we were able to quickly move through an approval process and ship the first unit for a store opening in South Florida. Simultaneously, we developed a set of our own standards in order to modify the concept for future locations. In addition to the pick-up windows, we have also applied the same visual standards to custom Dutch Doors - separating the dining room from the kitchen area in new stores.

Our experience with Sweetgreen is indicative of the organic manner in which many of our new client partnerships begin. In many cases, we will start a new relationship by solving a time-sensitive problem that other vendors shied away from. We utilize our collective talents, fearlessness, and drive to accomplish the “impossible”, starting things off on the right foot. Our real value shines once we have gained a new client's trust. This gives us the ability to work closely with them to define and accomplish continuing goals.

Each year we help Aesop bring eight seasonal campaigns to life. Our relationship with them goes all the way back to 2013; in fact, they are our longest tenured client. Our partnership began with graphic updates at four Aesop locations in New York City and has consistently blossomed into 60+ locations across North America. For each campaign, we work closely with their designers in order to choose the appropriate materials and process methodology. For the Generosity of Anatomy, we employed a multi-layer UV printing technique and an optically clear vinyl.

The Aesop team has a keen eye for detail and discerning taste. They prefer clean, seamless graphics which often require complex vinyl cutting. All Aesop stores contain custom window graphics and lightbox displays to match the organic, one-of-a-kind locations they inhabit. We carefully cater our services to each individual location. Other projects we have partnered with Aesop on include; temporary graphics for construction barricade hoarding, special events, and store openings. We have even been asked to print and install branding elements at their home office in NYC.

For their New York Deli pop-up shop at Nordstrom's flagship store in Midtown Manhattan, we partnered with Rag & Bone's visual team to recreate the experience of an NYC bodega...albeit with refined standards. Faux industrial drink refrigerators, stacks of custom printed newspapers, and a fitting room resembling a stock room made the concept sing. While tapping into both our print and fabrication capabilities, integrating digitally imaged headers and faux neon lettering into the design, Rag & Bone also gave us the opportunity to flex our creative muscles. Our scenic painters created hand-painted awning signage for a touch of authenticity. After the run of show at Nordstrom, our logistics team carefully broke down the installation for storage. A few months later we refurbished and reinstalled the pop-up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Rag and Bone Deli

We collaborate with Nordstrom on projects across the country, though, our biggest project each year revolves around their flagship store in Midtown Manhattan and their Men’s store on the opposite side of Broadway. Over the course of several nights, 20+ or more of our talented graphics installers work tirelessly to take over the striking, undulating glass facade of the 57th street flagship location. The result is an inviting, bold display that has become indicative of the holiday shopping season in New York City.

Nordstorm prioritizes customer sightlines and visibility through their glass facade when planning holiday designs. Keeping this in mind, we work with the visual team to select the best materials to achieve their concept. Often the graphics become a complex mix of optically clear films and finely cut vinyl applications. Considering the displays go up during the month of November, the low temperatures can make installing these films challenging based on requirements for liquid application. Most vendors in our line of work would avoid this type of installation all together during the colder months. Instead, we have developed solutions such as increasing ambient temperature in the stores and both pre and post-heating the films throughout the course of application. It is this sort of problem-solving which has made us a valued partner for so many retailers nationwide.

Louboutin has been a valued client of ours since 2018. We began working closely with their North American visual team to coordinate and execute their seasonal window displays across the country. Throughout the initial campaigns, we evaluated site conditions for all locations in order to create efficient and accurate 3D models of the display windows. This allows us to better plan and design subsequent rollouts. We have thoroughly enjoyed the creative problem solving and level of artistry involved when approaching each new season.

Retail window rollouts are somewhat of a staple offering at Volume. We work with several high-fashion and fast-fashion retailers alike, bringing their windows to life throughout the year. These installations allow us to utilize our full suite of services from a project's concept to reality. We regularly support window rollouts ranging in scale from one to 250 locations. We are accustomed to dealing with a wide range of budgets, as well.
